Why Don't Airplanes Have A Reverse Gear?

Why are airplanes pushed back from the terminal? Don’t airplanes have reverse gears?

Modern airplanes can go backwards on the ground, but it is not advisable.

When the jet engine runs, it sends a ‘jet blast’ in the opposite direction, which is a blast of wind of up to 120 miles per hour and as far as 200 feet. This wind speed is dangerous, capable of flattening buildings and destroying vehicles.

Jet engines work differently than cars. Cars use internal combustion engines which convert the up-and-down movement of pistons into rotary movements. Jets, on the other hand, use engines that produce power by sucking air in the front of the engine and blasting out hot exhaust gases at the back.

There is also a chance that the vacuum produced by the engine can swallow some debris. This can damage the engine and risk the lives of those on board.
